Joseph Gelwicks
August 30, 1930 — April 12, 2017
Mr. Joseph William Gelwicks, 86, of Thurmont, MD passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Helen Gelwicks.
Born August 30, 1930 in Emmitsburg, MD he was the son of the late James Francis and Carrie A. Grimes Gelwicks.
Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. Joseph and his wife owned and operated Gelwicks Trash Service in Thurmont. He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing guitar with his friends. Joseph was an avid animal lover especially cats.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Julie Portner and husband Danny of Thurmont; three grandchildren Dana, Shari and DJ; five great-grandchildren Katelyn, Taylor, Hayden, Talen and Barrett; cousin Audrey Carpenter of Weston, WV.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5-8PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at Graceham Moravian Church, 8231 Rocky Ridge Rd., Thurmont, at 10:30AM. Pastor and niece Sue Koenig will officiate.
Interment will follow at Mt. Prospect Cemetery.
