Jonathan David Wilson, 51, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on August 13th, 2021.
Jonathan was a good-natured man with a genuine smile who loved to bring laughter to those around him. Jonathan cared deeply for his family and friends. He was an avid football fan who was loyal to the Washington Redskins his entire life. He never backed down from a fight and always had his friends’ back.
Jonathan was also human and had his flaws but, he would tell you to remember those as well. Jonathan always said not to tell saintly stories of him once he was gone. Instead, he said remember me for all that I was.
Jonathan grew up in Frederick, MD, where he could often be found causing trouble with his younger brothers, Huie and Eric, and giving his mother a run for her money. All three boys were rambunctious and full of energy, as many are. Their connection remained strong throughout their lives even as life moved them in different directions. Jonathan and his brothers, without fail, could always pick up as if no time had passed.
In his late teens, Jonathan made the decision to join the United States Navy and, while he only served for a small portion of his life, he was extremely proud of his time in the military and always made a point to thank any service member he met for their time and service. Jonathan was fiercely patriotic and loved that his birthday was on the 4th of July because he knew there would always be a celebration on his birthday and fireworks were guaranteed.
Throughout his twenties, Jonathan spent time working with various local bands providing technical support for performances, which pretty much translated to working with friends while drinking. During this time Jonathan also worked on a golf course and other odd jobs until he eventually found his true calling when a friend suggested he join him selling pool tables. Jonathan was a natural in sales. He went on to sell insurance, horse trailers, filtrations systems, and cars, which was his favorite. He loved the dynamics of working a sale and it turns out he was a social butterfly in the waiting.
Social butterfly indeed is what his fellow tailgaters would say. Jonathan became a season ticket holder for the Washington Redskins and immediately joined up with the Extremeskins organized tailgating crew. Jonathan loved attending these games with his family and the tailgating would be an all-day event with Jonathan floating around, visiting, and never staying in one place too long. Rain or shine, Jonathan could be counted on to be smiling, cheering, toasting, and sometimes cursing as he rooted for his team with family and friends.
That is what it always came back to for Jonathan…family and friends.
Jonathan was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and much more to many others. He was friend with a heart of gold and an unwavering sense of loyalty. Jonathan was a warm soul with an infectious laugh who could make people feel welcome without even trying.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Andrea Matazinski-Wilson, who loved him for more than 25 years, his children, Darrien, Treasure, Jonathan, Abi, and Wendi, his parents, Melody and Charles Tasco, his brothers, Howard and Eric Wilson, his grandchildren, and other extended family. His passing leaves a tremendous hole in many hearts.
