Mr. John Paul Langley, 79, of Frederick, MD went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Lorien Healthcare Center, Mt. Airy, MD following a seven year illness of Lou Gehrig's disease.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Hilda Marston Langley.
Born on April 18, 1929 in Rocky Mount, NC he was the son of the late J. Paul and Julia Zimmerman Langley.
He graduated from Rocky Mount High School then attended North Carolina State University for two years. He then joined the Air Force and was a member of the Strategic Air Command, 90th Wing during the Korean War. After his discharge he went back to N.C. State and graduated with a Dairy Manufacturing Degree.
He worked for Coble Dairy in Lexington, NC for eleven years. The family moved to Frederick, MD and he worked for Capital Milk Producers ( High's ) from August of 1969 until he retired in April 1991.
Mr. Langley was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, where he served as a deacon, was on the library committee and a choir member. At First Baptist Church of Frederick he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member. At South End Baptist Church, he was on the Trustee Committee and sang in the choir.
Paul was an Eagle Scout and had two other Eagle Scouts in the family, his eldest son Jeff and his eldest grandson Andy.
In Frederick he was active with the National Capital Area Council, Francis Scott Key District of the Boy Scouts and served as district chairman for several years. He also was a member of the Frederick Rotary Club and served as chairman of the United Way of Frederick for two years. In Lexington, NC he was a member of the Jaycees.
Surviving beside his wife are three children; Jeffrey Keith Langley and wife Nancy of Gettysburg, PA, David Scott Langley of Bealeton, VA and Julia Leigh Beard of Braddock Heights, MD., five grandsons; Andrew Charles Langley, Joshua Kyle Langley, Samuel Luke Langley, Travis Michael Beard and Tanner James Beard, and one sister Winifred Griffin of Jacksonville, FL.
Visitation: The family will receive friends and family at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Thursday, September 4th, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Dr., Frederick, Md 21701 . Rev. Kenneth Stalls will officiate. Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to South End Baptist Church.
