Mr. John Motter Crapster, 88 of Frederick, MD died on Friday evening, February 5th, 2010 at Sunrise of Frederick. John was the loving husband of 56 years to Caroline Etzler Crapster whom preceded him in death.
Born in Taneytown, MD, Carroll County on May 7, 1921, he was the son of the late John O'Neal Crapster and Helen Reindollar Crapster.
Mr. Crapster as a lifelong and devoted member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church served as Offering Secretary, Grounds Keeper, and was active in the church bowling league.
Along with is wife they served as Communion Stewart and Sextons of the church for many years.
He was a graduate of Taneytown High School Class of 1941 and had been employed for more than 38 years at Fort Detrick, Frederick, Maryland serving as a Police Officer for the Department of Defense.
John proudly served his country during War World II with the United States Navy on the USS LSM #179 being Honorable Discharged in December 1945.
He was a Honorary member of over 43 years with the Mount Pleasant Ruritan Club and served as a Past Treasurer, USS LSM-LSMR Association, Life Member of the American Legion Taneytown Post, Elks Lodge Frederick Post #684 and the American Federation of Government Employees.
He was a former member of the New Thurmont Dance Club and the Over the Hill Gang Club.
Surviving is his son, John Todd Crapster and wife Crystal of Walkersville, two grandsons, John Aaron Crapster and Kyle D. Crapster both of Walkersville, one sister, Alice Crapster Hengst and husband Bob of Mountain Home, Idaho, three sisters-in-law, Lucille Etzler of Frederick, Nancy Crapster of Salisbury, N.C. and Barbara Crapster of Taneytown, MD and brother-in-law, George C. Stauffer of Walkersville, and a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis Crapster, O'Neal Crapster and William Bill Crapster.
Also surviving are special friends, Gloria and Ray Gafney, Madge Stevens, Virginia Woodman, Dick Smith, Monroe and Kitty Feaga and numerous church family members.
The family would also like to acknowledge and to thank the staff and care givers at Sunrise of Frederick, who took such loving care of him during his later years.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Attn: Treasurer, 9550 Liberty Rd., Frederick, MD 21701 or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, February 11th from 2-4 and 7-9PM.
Services:
Funeral services will be held at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 9550 Liberty Rd., Frederick, on Friday, February 12th at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Richard Baker, his pastor officiating.
Teresa Martin will offer musical selection.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
