John F. R. Smith, Jr.

Mr. John F. R. Smith, Jr., 68 of Union Bridge, MD., died suddenly January 14, 2010. He was the husband of the late Goldie F. Mock Smith, his wife of 40 years.

Born September 20, 1941 in Frederick, MD., he was the son of John F. R. Sr. And Pauline Burkett Smith.

John was a member of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years and a member of the Frederick Fire Police. He was employed at Century Ford in Mt. Airy for 5+ years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, metal detecting, gardening, mushroom hunting and going to the beach. He loved his cats, his rabbits and chickens and the Baltimore Ravens.

He is survived by a son Robert L. Smith and wife Lisa and a granddaughter Alicia E. Smith all of Union Bridge, his siblings Ann Fogle and husband Abe of Woodsboro, Louise Willard, Franklin P. Smith and wife Colleen all of Thurmont, and Joanne King and husband Edwin, a brother-in-law Wayne Mock all of Union Bridge, sister-in-law Margaret Bohn and husband Robert and a niece Hilda Bohn all of Hagerstown. He will be missed by all his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew David Fogle.

Visitation: Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 21, at 11:00 a.m.

Services: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville on Tuesday, Jan 19, and Wednesday Jan 20, from 7 - 9 p.m
