John Allen Smith, Sr.

Mr. John Allen Smith, Sr., 79 of Taneytown, MD., died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at his home. He was the husband of June Tressler Smith his wife of 52 years.

Born March 29, 1929 in Frederick, MD., he was the son of the late Clarence and Minnie Brashears Smith.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren. He was semi-retired, after 23 years, from Southern States in Woodsboro. John enjoyed the outdoors, watching T.V. and doing word search puzzles.

In addition to his wife he is survived by five children John Allen Smith, Jr and wife Terry, Peggy Marie Rock and husband Donald all of Taneytown, Terry Lynn Parks and husband Alan of Emmitsburg, Dale Smith, Sr. and wife Denise of Mt. Pleasant and Robbie Smith, Sr and wife Lisa of Taneytown. There are sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two sisters Mary Green and Betty Rohrback both of Frederick and her brother Ben Smith of Eureka, CA. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by a son Kevin Gene Smith, a sister Helen Winn, two brothers Charles and Clarence Smith and a son-in-law Walter Joseph Fogle.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 3, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m., with Msgr. Martin E. Feild and Deacon Darrell Smith officiating.
Interment Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, MD
