John Franklin Zimmerman, 47, of 3536 Harpers Ferry Road, Sharpsburg, was called home into the loving arms of his Lord, Thursday, October 9, 2008.
Born in Martinsburg, W. Va., he was the son of Audrey and Frank Spielman and the late John Thomas Zimmerman.
He was a 1980 graduate of Boonsboro High School, where he helped assist with sports.
John was a former volunteer umpire for the Sharpsburg Little League.
Although John had many physical challenges throughout his life, he always persevered and his courage and trust in God was an example to many. He was a member of Burnside Church of God in Sharpsburg.
His greatest loves were his God, his family, the Atlanta Braves, Oakland Raiders and especially the Shepherd College Rams. Except for periods of his illness, John had not missed a home Ram game since 1981.
In addition to his mother and stepfather; John is survived by two sisters, Carol Allen and husband, T.K. of Martinsburg, W. Va., Jacquie Richardson and husband, David, of Maugansville, Md.; and one brother, Michael Zimmerman, at home; many special aunts, uncles, two nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas K. Zimmerman; maternal grandparents, Pete and Mary Morgan; paternal grandparents, Bill and Fannie Zimmerman; and a very special niece, Brittany M. Neville.
There will be a visitation Monday, October 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, P.A. in Boonsboro, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Samples Manor Cemetery, Sharpsburg, with Rev. Ernest Witmer officiating.
