John Talcott

November 9, 1935 — September 1, 2013

John “Jack” Talcott passed into eternal life September 1, 2013 in Frederick, Maryland. Born in Washington, D.C. on November 9, 1935, Jack grew up in Bladensburg, MD, attending parochial school at St. Jerome’s.  After graduating from the University of Maryland at College Park, Jack was employed at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, then moved to Maryland to work at COMSAT, and finally ended his career at Lockheed-Martin. As an electrical engineer in the emerging American space program, he worked on the Mariner and Ranger satellite programs, among many others. Married to his beloved Cathy for 45 years, Jack was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
After raising their seven children to adulthood in Maryland, Jack and Cathy retired to warm and sunny Arizona. They travelled the U.S. extensively in their RV until her illness prevented further adventures.  An avid birder and coin collector, Jack was also a member of the Sierra Vista Garden Club. Jack was a daily communicant at Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Community and a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the OLM Charismatic Prayer Group. In the last year of his life, Jack returned to Maryland where he could be cared for by his children.  In the end, he was ready to go rest in the arms of his Lord and be reunited with his beloved wife after four long years. While his family deeply feels his absence, we trust that he is now truly at peace and hope to see him again one day.
Predeceased by his parents, wife Cathy, and brother Jim, Jack is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Janet and Jean Provost and his brother and sister-in-law Russ and Cindy Talcott.  He is also survived by his children: John and Dana Talcott of Fairfield, PA; Laurel and Mark Beckman of Great Mills, MD; April and Ed Danchik of Woodbine, MD; David and Candace Talcott of Germany; Melody Talcott of Great Mills, MD; Steven and Kim Talcott of Gaithersburg, MD; and Eddie and Jenny Talcott of Austin, TX. Jack will be sorely missed by each of his sixteen grandchildren, including the two who have yet to be born, and his great-granddaughter.
A Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his spirit-filled life will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poplar Springs, MD, on Friday, September 6, 2013, at 10:30 AM with interment immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to your local parish or the American Heart Association.
