John Sparks

February 26, 1932 — July 26, 2013

John F. Sparks, 81, of Buckeystown, passed away on July 26, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Betty J. Chapman Sparks.

Born on February 26, 1932 in England he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Elizabeth L. Sainsbury Sparks.

He was a printer for the Federal Government and active member of the Typographical Union # 101.  After retirement, he continued to work at N.I.H and Ft. Detrick. John was a well-traveled and well-read man. His talents varied as an amateur pilot, sky diving, golfing, assembling mechanical models, and bird watching; a man who enjoyed the outdoors.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Jennifer A. Poppert and husband Bernard of  North Carolina, Gillian D. Collins and husband Larry of Damascus, Kay A. Guidera and husband Paul of Arizona, Debra J. Crouse of Walkersville, Donna F. White and husband Richard of Thurmont, Robin L. Federline of Nevada, Holly A. Hough of Thurmont and M. Scott Hough of Frederick. Sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Special nephew Michael Hough of Walkersville. Sister-in-law Joyce Sparks, one niece and nephew all residing in England. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles C. Sparks.

The family will receive friends from 6-9pm on Wednesday July 31, 2013 at the Stauffer Funeral Homes P. A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday August 1, 2013 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Tim May will officiate. Interment will be private.
