John Snyder

Mr. John Somerville Snyder, Jr. 71 of Monrovia, Maryland died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. He was the husband of Carol Boeckmann Snyder.

Born July 10, 1940 in Bayshore, New York he was the son of the late John Somerville Snyder and Sophia Smith Snyder.

Mr. Snyder graduated with a Master’s in Engineering from University of Rochester and from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

He retired from both Comsat and TASC. He was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity and IEEE. He had a great love for music.

Mr. Snyder published eight papers and had five patents in Digital Satellite Communications. He was also appointed to two three year terms by the Governor for the Frederick County Board of Appeals.

In addition to his loving wife Carol, he is survived by his two sons, Eric John Snyder of Bristol, Connecticut and Mark Somerville Snyder of Ridge, New York, his three sisters, Joan Irizarry and husband Joseph, Evelyn Fishman and husband Robert and Ruth Phelan and husband Tom, a brother-in-law, Ron Meyer, a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Nelson Snyder and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Meyer and his step mother, Dorothy Kunkle Snyder.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 2:00PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where the family will be present to receive friends from 1:00-2:00PM.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
