John Smith

Lt. John F. Smith (USN Ret.), 73, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away at his home on April 23, 2015.

Born in 1941 in Potsdam, NY, he was the youngest of six children of the late Raymond and Sylvia Smith.

John was a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy. His service brought him around the world, including stations in Antarctica, Italy, Greece, and the Pentagon, where he met his wife. They moved to Sharpsburg in 1978 and John retired from the Navy in 1979. He then worked as a federal contractor in communications before leaving to run his own business. He owned and operated the Sharpsburg Amoco for over 13 years before selling the store in 2001. John enjoyed traveling to Florida and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and sons David and wife Carolyn Moller of Durango, CO, Kenneth and his wife Leona of Sharpsburg, MD, Thomas and his wife Stephanie of Frederick, MD, Jeffrey of Frederick, MD, and Brian of Frederick, MD, and daughter Robin of Chicago, IL, as well as grandchildren Olivia, Nicholas, Audrey, Abigail, Cecilia, Kayla and her son Brayden, and step grandchildren, Jeanette and Kellsey. He is also survived by two sisters, a brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a grandson, Kory.

Per John's wishes, the family will hold private services at a later date in Titusville, FL.
