John William Shupe, 69 returned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. His firm belief in God, his family, his cat, his love for the Redskins and the 2 A Walkersville Football Champions, supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. John was born to the late Dorothy Eileen and Jim Wallace Shupe in Washington, D.C. on February 19, 1948.
John was a meat cutter by trade and worked in the insurance industry for many years. He was the sole proprietor of Crazy John’s Butcher shop. For the last 13 years he has driven a cab in Frederick, which he considered his ‘mission field’ and loved meeting new people.
John is survived by his beloved cat, Dixie; his daughters, Julie Ferguson, husband Steve, Annie Kelley, husband Andrew, and Meghan Shupe, fiancé John Carbone. His greatest joys, his grandchildren; Ian, Chloe, Bryce, Noah, Braden and Emma. His adopted grandchildren, Kristin and Christina. He will also be remembered by his family Donna Diggs-Shupe and Angelia. As well his faithful friends, Sue Ferguson, Neil and Susan Hagelin. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tommy and Blaine and his treasured sister, Sissy.
John had a passion to support those struggling with mental health challenges and addictions. He celebrated his 15 year sobriety this year! His wish for all is to have a better understanding of addictions and seek support.
The family would like to send their utmost appreciation to the staff at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehab, Dr. Hegazi/Corinna and staff at FOHA, FMH nurses and staff, Dr. Marsha Shaw/Amber Lange for their support and compassion for dad over the last year. Thanks to Frederick County Hospice for their support over the last week of his life.
The family will receive friends during a visitation/celebration of John’s life on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Frederick Christian Fellowship Church, 10142 Hansonville Road, #5, Frederick, MD 21702.
In lieu of flowers John wanted donations to be made to: Frederick Christian Fellowship Church (see address above) or Glade Valley Nursing and Rehab Nursing for the Resident Council Fund at 56 W. Frederick St., Walkersville, MD 21793.
