Mr. John Wayne Russell, 74, of Jefferson went home to the Lord on Saturday, February 1, 2014 after he suddenly collapsed while at work. He was the loving husband of 51 years to Mary Russell.
Born in Lucketts, VA on April 19, 1939, he was the son of the late Gladys Russell Cooper.
Wayne was a life-long farmer since the age of 14. He had a strong work ethic and was admired by many area farmers for his diligent hard work. Wayne died doing what he enjoyed the most.
Additionally, Wayne loved gardening (often growing enough vegetables to feed five families), mowing the lawn, and sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair. In later years, he enjoyed trips to Ocean City and the Chesapeake Bay where he would crab, fish and camp.
Most importantly, Wayne was a loving husband and father.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children Nancy Paugh, and Brenda, Larry, Donald and Jimmy Russell; four grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Krystle and Chris; two sisters, Pauline Allison and Minnie Hensley; and three brothers, Howard, Edward and Lewis Russell.
He will be fondly remembered by his longtime friends, Eddie O'Hara, Steve and Dale.
Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Russell; and a grandson, Eric Paugh.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 6 at Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick. Officiating will be Pastor Charlene Barnes.
Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Serving as pall bearers will be Eddie Johnson, Eddie O'Hara, Melvin Burdette, Harrison Stone, John Stone and Johnny Stone. Honorary bearers will be Michael Paugh, Steven Paugh, Larry Russell and Donald Russell.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the family.
