John A. Runion

John A. Runion, 89, of Mt. Airy, MD, peacefully went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, at 11:10 AM on January 10, 2025, with his beloved wife, Beverly Runion, by his side. 

Born on September 20, 1935, in Bayard, WV, John was the son of the late Alton B. Runion and Justina S. Runion of Keyser, WV. He was a proud graduate of Potomac State College in Keyser, WV. 

John was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy Runion and Glen Rotruck; his sister, Ruth Housley; and brothers-in-law Richard Housley, Vaughn Broadwater, and Michael Shillingburg II.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Ann Runion; his sister, Betty Forbeck, and her husband, Douglas Forbeck of Gettysburg, PA; his step-daughter, Debbie Troxler and her husband, Tommy of Gaithersburg, MD; his step-daughter, Sharon Shipe and her husband, Ralph of New Market, MD; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who cherished their time with him.

John had a successful career as a foreman with several companies, including West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company of Luke, MD, Gustin Gardens of Gaithersburg, MD, Cohen Investments of Rockville, MD, and Davey Tree Experts of Gaithersburg, MD. At Davey Tree, he was particularly known for his work in geese control alongside his beloved Border Collie, Dottie, who brought him much joy.

Together with Beverly, John owned and operated Jo-Be Landscaping for 22 years, where they built a legacy of hard work and dedication to their community. Additionally, John taught Sunday School at New Market United Methodist Church for 15 years, sharing his faith and love for God's word with others.

An avid gardener, John enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and following baseball. His passion for life and faith was evident in all he did.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements are entrusted to Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick, MD. There will be a brief viewing for family and friends on January 20th at 10:30 am at Stauffer Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Gardens 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. Frederick, MD 21701.
