John William Robertson (known as “Robby” to his friends) passed away on July 5, 2013 at the age of 87. Born in Hunker, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1926 to Bertha Naomi Sheraw and Arthur Milligan Robertson. He spent the first part of his adult life “seeing the world” through a career in the Navy. After his marriage to his beloved wife, Mary Louise Lunney Robertson, he settled down in Charleston, SC where he remained until 2005. He spent his remaining years in Frederick, Maryland with his daughter, Allyse (formerly Alice) Turner and her family.
He joined the Navy in 1944 , served during WWII and later retired in 1969 to Charleston, SC where he took a job with General Electric. He remained with GE until his retirement from them in 1985. During his life he was a member of several organizations including: Elks Lodge #868 (Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania), American Post Legion #179 (Charleston,South Carolina), The Fleet Reserve Association L. Mendel Rivers Branch 50 (Charleston, SC), the VFW, and the Charleston Rifle Club. He was also a member of Dade Masonic Lodge No. 14 and a Scottish Rite Mason.
He was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Kelly and his wife Mary (in 2003.) He leaves behind sister Elizabeth Pastorius of Hunker, PA, daughter Allyse Turner, grandson Triston Turner, and granddaughter Ashley Turner, all of Ijamsville, MD. Services and interment will be private.
