John "Pat" Patrick Hart

John Patrick Hart, fondly known as Pat, was a remarkable individual whose presence touched the lives of many. Born on March 5, 1941, in Washington DC, Pat lived a life characterized by love, laughter, and countless accomplishments.  On August 13, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family, he peacefully passed away at his home in Mount Airy, Maryland.

Pat's journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication and continuous learning. After graduating from Archbishop John Carroll in 1959, he pursued higher education at Maryland University. In 1979, driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Pat enrolled in the Photographic Science and Instrumentation Program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. His thirst for knowledge persisted as he later undertook a graduate course in Management at Frostburg State College.

In 1960, Pat married Carole Forrest Hart. Together they were blessed with three sons: David, Scott, and Brian. Pat's devotion to his family was evident as he embraced his role as a dedicated father.

Professionally, Pat found fulfillment working in various fields throughout his career. Starting in the construction industry as a pipe cover, he soon transitioned to the government sector by joining the Army Map Service in 1960. Balancing work and education seamlessly, Pat attended night school at Montgomery College while contributing to the agency's mission. Over his remarkable 39-year tenure with the Army Map Service, which was ultimately named National Imagery and Mapping Agency upon retirement, Pat held numerous titles and held supervisory positions for more than two decades. In later years, he concluded his career in research and technology as a government contractor technical representative with Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Pat embraced life's adventures with open arms. He possessed an unyielding appreciation for nature and relished outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and biking. An avid traveler, Pat found solace in exploring the Nation's wonders and capturing their beauty through the lens of his camera. He had a particular affinity for the ocean and delighted in indulging in the delicacy of hard-shelled crabs. Additionally, Pat's love for music and live entertainment brought him joyous moments shared with loved ones.

Pat's vivacious spirit shone brightly through his vibrant sense of humor. He believed that laughter was essential to navigating life's highs and lows, often regaling his friends and family with funny stories behind the bumps and scratches on his well-worn pickup trucks and funny animal stories of his life on the farm. His ability to find humor even in challenging times served as a reminder to cherish the joyful moments that make life worth living.

One of Pat's proudest accomplishments came in 1999 when he retired from his professional pursuits to become a stay-at-home dad. During this chapter of his life, he dedicated himself to caring for his youngest son, Matthew, until he was ready to embark on his own educational journey. Pat's commitment extended beyond his own children as he eagerly volunteered at the schools Matthew attended, touching the lives of many young students through his warm presence and shared experiences.

Pat cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, considering himself truly blessed to have them by his side. His parents Charles Ray Hart Jr. and Dortohy Gertrude Brim Hart played integral roles in shaping the man he became. In later years, Pat found love again when he married Karen Becvar Hart in 1991, sharing a deep bond that brought forth their beloved son Matthew Joseph Hart on April 28, 1995. Alongside his wife, Karen; sons, David and wife Tammie, Brian and wife Ginger, and Matthew and partner, Jenna, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren also held a special place in his heart.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephew and cousins. Pat formed an unbreakable support network founded on profound love and lasting memories.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Scott Hart and siblings, Michelle Hart and Charles (Chic) Hart

To honor and celebrate the life of John Patrick Hart, a memorial service will be held on August 18, 2023, at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Libertytown, MD. The service will commence at 11:00 AM, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to come together and fondly remember the extraordinary individual Pat was.
