John Nordhoff

August 6, 1927 — February 11, 2012

John Joseph Nordhoff, 84, died peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick, Maryland. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 22 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, Texas.

John is survived by his sister Marijo Pennington. He also is survived by children: Dennis Antonio, John Irvin Nordhoff, Wanda Louise Gaddis, Remona Gay Keeth, Joan Kathryn Darden, Pamela Jo LeBlanc and step-children: Sonja Marie Hicks and Melissa Ann Mallo as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and in-laws. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 38 years, Margaret Ruth Nordhoff, son, Donald William Nordhoff and step-son, Cameron Delano Hicks.

John had a remarkably full and active life. He was born August 6,1927 and raised in Aurora, Indiana. He studied metallurgy in college and served in the military. He received his pilots’ license and enjoyed traveling all over the world, living and raising most of his children in Texas. John was a perpetual entrepreneur and inventor. He founded many successful businesses throughout his lifetime and received at least one U.S. patent. He was a true intellectual, classified a Mensa, always eager to discuss engineering, physics, politics or philosophical topics. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
