John Murto

March 14, 1946 — May 11, 2010

John Michael Murto, age 64, of Boonsboro, Maryland passed away early on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 14, 1946, in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Harry Chalmers Murto and Dorothea L. (O'Leary) Murto.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Navy.

Johnny spent 28 1/2 years in Federal Service, retiring from the Library of Congress as a Computer Programmer in June 2001.

He was a lifetime member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, where he participated and volunteered at Camp West Mar.  He was also a member of the Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport, and the Amvets Post 9 in Middletown.

He was the husband of Eleanor Anderson Murto whom he married on October 11, 1980. He is also survived by his daughter, Sarah E. Murto; six brothers, William R. of Fort Myers, Florida, James F. of Lusby, Maryland, Francis P. and  Joseph A., both of Ft. Myers, Florida, Robert A. of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and Richard C. of Tampa, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Ann Murto; and one brother, Harry Clair Murto.

No service will be held.

Family and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10, 710 North Main Street, Boonsboro, Maryland.   Prayers and the presentation of Military Honors will take place at 6 p.m.

The family request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in the name of John M. Murto to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21742.
