John P. Moore, a beloved husband, talented engineer, and cherished storyteller, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 6, 2025, at his home. Born in Virginia on December 25, 1938, John brought joy and laughter to the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
For 25 remarkable years, John dedicated his career to IBM, where he embraced every aspect of his work as an engineer. His colleagues admired his technical expertise and his humorous personality, which made even the most challenging days enjoyable. He even engineered and made his own firearms for his own use. John was a remarkable storyteller, always ready to share anecdotes that captivated the attention of everyone around him, and he thrived on building connections with people.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, John served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. His service instilled in him a deep sense of commitment and resilience that he carried throughout his life.
John found great pleasure in his hobbies and interests. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed the thrill of the chase, and he had a passion for car racing that fueled his adventurous spirit. Evenings were often spent in front of the television, indulging in his favorite shows, but it was in the garden that he truly felt at home. His gardening prowess was noteworthy, as evidenced by his pride in growing asparagus that surpassed even that of the grocery store. John will be missed by the numerous gun clubs that he was a part of.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Mercedes Moore, who stood by his side through the many stories and laughs they shared. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lon Moore and Ada Moore, whose influences shaped the man he became.
John P. Moore will be remembered not just for his many achievements, but for the love he shared, the laughter he spread, and the memories he left behind. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
