John R. Matthews

John R. Matthews, 80, of Frederick, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024 at home. 

Born on October 21, 1944, in Emmitsburg, MD, he was the son of the late William J. and Frances (Ott) Matthews.

Johnny was a proud Vietnam Army Veteran. He was employed by Carpenters Local Union 132 for many years. 

He is survived by his wife, Joan L. Matthews; daughter, Julie Matthews-Harris (William); son, Clark Matthews; grandchildren, Nina and Herbie; great-granddaughter, Haven; and a host of loved ones.

Johnny was preceded in death by siblings, William, Viola and Gary. 

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street in Thurmont, MD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road in Walkersville with Rev. Juan Rubio as Celebrant. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Timothy's.
