John Martyniuk, fondly known as GrandDad and Uncle Marty, went home to his Lord on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the well-lived age of 92.
He was born to Wasil Martyniuk and Maria Stefaniuk Martyniuk on May 10, 1918, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He married Pauline (Pam) Schreiner on May 4, 1943, in Rapid City, South Dakota. His beloved Pam preceeded him in death in 1980. His proud service to his country as a Sargeant in the United States Army for 30 years included World War II and the Korean War.
He is survived by a large and loving family to include his wife Joy Stokes Martyniuk; daughters Lynne Vandaveer and husband Art, Lisa Groves and husband Jim, and son Bill Maryniuk and wife Amanda. He was blessed with grandchildren Jeffrey (and wife Ellen) Vandaveer, Amy Vandaveer and Michael (and wife Sarah) Vandaveer; Austin (and wife Jessica) Groves, Trevor Groves and Mallory Groves; and Joey Martyniuk. Great-grandchildren Julia, Jacob, James and Anna Vandaveer and Aidan, John Paul and Mary Katherine Groves brought additional joy to his life.
He is also survived by his dear sister-in-law Bette Marshall and many loved nieces and nephews.
Our dearly loved father, grandad, and uncle will be greatly missed.
