John Robert Martin, 75, long term resident of Lisbon, MD, achieved his eternal rest on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 after succumbing to the complications arising from illness. John was born in 1940 in Melrose, MA to James and Marion Martin, who along with a brother James Jr., preceded him in death. As a young man, John attended both Georgetown University and Boston College before settling in Woodlawn, MD for a 40 year career a systems engineer at the Social Security Administration. In the early 1980's, John, his wife, and their three children relocated to Lisbon, MD and were actively involved in the Howard County 4-H Dairy program until 2000. Outside of his work and his devotion to his family, he was an avid collector of historical artifacts, especially those from the WWI and WWII era. He was an active member of many gun clubs in the area, including various chapters of the Izaak Walton League of America. John was a communicant of St. Michael's Church at Poplar Springs and Knights of Columbus Council #10525. He also enjoyed being a member of a regional trivia league, where he and his daughter held an unprecedented 30 win streak before his health prevented him from attending. Aside from numerous friends and acquaintances, John is survived by his wife of 44 wonderful and memorable years, Sandra (Newcomer) Martin; son John Martin of Ellicott City, MD; daughter Elizabeth (Martin) Gammon and her husband, Alex Gammon of Baltimore, MD; daughter MaryAnne Martin of Mt. Airy, MD; and beloved grandson Theodore Gammon.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy, MD, Monday 2-4 and 6-8 pm with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mt. Airy, MD on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11 am. Interment St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services, PO Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21297-0303.
