John Dale Lum, 68, of Mt. Lena, Maryland, graduated to glory peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born on December 11, 1944, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Samuel and Julia Ellen (Haupt) Lum.
John was a 1962 graduate of Boonsboro High School.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Lena United Methodist Church.
John held many job positions in his life. Most recently, he worked for Washington County at the Kaetzel Road Transfer Station in Gapland, Maryland, retiring in 2009 after 15 years of service.
He was a member of the Classic Chevy Club, now known as Ecklers Classic Chevy; and was known for his restoration of and showing of his antique cars; especially his 1957 Chevy Convertible, which was his pride and joy.
John is survived by his loving wife, Gloria "Jo" (Witt) Lum, whom he married on February 20, 1972; two sons, John Kraymer Lum of Boonsboro and Joshua Dale Lum of Hagerstown. He is also survived by three grandsons, John Peyton Lum, Noah Benjamin Lum, and Owen Matthew Kraymer Lum, all of Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry E. Lum.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 3013 at Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mt. Lena Road, Boonsboro, Maryland. Rev. Ronald R. Kurtz and Rev. Elza Hurst will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.
