John Wayne Lightfield of Middletown, MD died September 11, 2014 surrounded by the love of his family and his Lord. He was born 81 years ago on July 5, 1933 in Dupree, SD to Ernie Lightfield and Ludmily Docekal Lightfield.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ardath, his daughter Meghan, sons Alan (Lisa), Mike (Karen), and Jeff (Oksana) and grandchildren Alayna, Johnny, Anna, and Katarina. His surviving siblings are Cora Jeffries, Florence Schuler and William Lightfield. His brother James and Ernie predeceased him.
John grew up in SD, served his Country during the Korean Conflict and attended South Dakota State University. He began his career in Houston, TX, moving to Maryland in 1970. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement.
He was generous with his time, helped at his church Evangelical Lutheran in Frederick and in his neighborhood. He had a dry sense of humor, which stayed with him to the end. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, reading and most of all being with his family.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 16th from 6-8 p.m. at Staufffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 and services on Wednesday, September 17th at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD, 21701 on Wednesday, September 17th at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church.
