John Knill

August 27, 1939 — September 21, 2017

John William "Bill" Knill, 78 of Frederick passed peacefully Thursday morning, September 21, 2017 at his daughter's home in Mount Airy, Maryland; where the family lovingly devoted 24 hour care for all his needs these last 2 years. Prior to that, he was also cared for by his family at the Crestwood Village home.
He was the beloved husband of Marian Lee (Carswell) Knill for 56 years.

Born August 27, 1939 in Montgomery County in a farmhouse on Peach Tree Road, he was the youngest son of the late John Russell Knill and Evelyn Rebecca (Cooley) Knill.
His family moved to Frederick in 1940, where as a preteen he began his first job; riding his bicycle 5.9 miles, taking 46 minutes one way, to operate rides at the Braddock Heights Amusement Park. While attending Frederick High School, class of 1957, Bill or "Greasy" enjoyed playing football, soccer, and being on the track team. He later played softball for Economy Oil and enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, cabinetry, puzzles, Mustangs of the 60's, collecting coins and model railroading, woodworking and landscaping in his latter years.
After high school, Bill joined the U.S. Air Force and worked in the Medical Field at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where he met and married his wife Marian. He was employed by Economy Oil, Glenn E. Waltz Plumbing and Heating, Barnes Cabinet Shop, R. Douglas Knill (Washington Post), Frederick Post Office and Griffith Energy Source. During his time working for an oil company he generally worked in the office, but when a snow storm or blizzard would hit the county he would be the first to walk out to the main road to be picked up by a fellow driver. He would pick up an oil delivery truck and head out to Baltimore to pick up fuel and deliver to homes that needed it. He was that kind of man. He also drove the Crestwood Village bus, taking residents to see shows in Pennsylvania. He had a strong love for God, family and country. He attended Christian Life Center in Ijamsville.

He leaves behind a daughter, Kimberly F. (Knill) Emswiler and her husband Kirk; a son, Bill Knill and his wife Terry; 6 grandchildren, Joshua W.R. Emswiler and Katie Schere, Elijah J. Emswiler, Easten L. Emswiler, Courtney Knill and Kyle Knill; 1 great grandson whom "Pop Pop" adored and spent precious time with, Justin Christopher William Emswiler; sister in law, Glenda Carswell, North Carolina; brother in law, Gene Carswell, California. Uncle Bill was so close in age to his many nieces and nephews that they looked up to him as a big brother. He will be missed greatly by his life long friends Ronnie and Judy Federline, Ellie and the Dinner and Game party crew in "Wrinkle City".
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Justin K. W. Emswiler, brothers, Russell Douglas Knill and his wife Bertie Knill and Allen O. Knill and his wife Bettie Knill.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7 from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m. at Christian Life Center, 3154 Green Valley Road Ijamsville, MD 21754, where services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Senior Pastor Sean Libby, Bishop R.E. Libby and Pastor Charles Smith will officiate. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
