John Karl

Mr. John E. A. Karl III, 45, of Fairplay, Colorado, died January 19, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on December 28, 1970, in Charleston, SC. He was the beloved son to Catherine Gaither Karl of Frederick and John E. A. Karl II (Mary) of Woodstock, MD. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two brothers, Erik Andrew Karl and wife Julie of Emmitsburg, MD., Michael Gaither Karl and wife Melissa, of Portland, TX, and his grandmother Doris Hemp Gaither of Adamstown, MD. He was an awesome uncle to Catherine Anna, Christopher Michael, Rebekah Lynn, Joseph Allen, and David Francis. He also leaves behind a very special Aunt and Uncle, Susan and Steve Rice, who are also compassionate caregivers to Cleo, John’s faithful companion. John will be fondly remembered by numerous cousins and many close friends in Frederick and Colorado.

John was predeceased by his grandparents, George and Annamary Karl and Francis S Gaither, Jr. and Uncle George and Aunt Sadako Karl.

After graduating from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in 1989, John set off for his life adventure, taking him to several states and then making his home in Colorado.

He returned to Frederick three years ago to be close to his family, and to courageously fight his disease of amyloidosis.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate John’s life, and to honor his kind and loving spirit, in the spring.
