John Hughes, Jr.

John Daniel Hughes, Jr. of Woodbine, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Gilchrist Center in Columbia, Maryland.
Born on April 17, 1955 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Daniel Hughes, Sr. and Mary Margaret (O’Boyle) Hughes.
John married the late Karen Sherry (Wright) Hughes on April 24, 1982 at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Hyattsville, Maryland.
John and Karen had 4 children: Kevin, Colleen, Patrick, and Matthew.

John attained a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Sciences with a concentration in Health Services Administration from National-Louis University and a Master of Science in Administration with a concentration in health services administration from Central Michigan University. He worked at the Washington Hospital Center in the District of Columbia and at Bon Secours Health System in Marriottsville, Maryland.

He is survived by son, Kevin Hughes, daughter, Colleen Hughes, son, Patrick Hughes, son, Matthew Hughes, sister, Mary Ellen Hughes, sister, Sheila M. Hughes, sister-in-law, Kim Cable, brother-in-law, Larry Cable, and sister-in-law Kristina S. Wright.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville in Mt. Airy, Maryland. A funeral mass will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Poplar Springs, Maryland, 1125 St. Michael’s Road in Mt. Airy, Maryland. Father Michael will officiate. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Mt. Airy, Maryland.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, Maryland, 21784.
