John Hipkins

Mr. John Walter Hipkins, 84, of Myersville passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro, He was the husband of Doris Rice Hipkins, his wife of 52 years who died in 2007.

Born on February 7, 1935, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Perry L. and Edna E. Derr Hipkins.

John was a carpenter by trade, working for Ernie Ausherman, Fred Rudy Construction, as well as for himself. He ended his career as a building inspector for Frederick County Government. John loved music and sang and directed the choir at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville for many years. He sang at weddings, family gatherings and any other opportunity that presented itself. The family would like to thank the staff at Fahrney-Keedy and Hospice of Washington County for their care of John over the past year.

He leaves behind two sons: Nelson Hipkins and wife Sharon of Wolfsville and Kevin Hipkins and wife Tammy of Fairfield, PA; four grandchildren: Katie Rudman and husband Sam of Myersville, Dustin Hipkins of Fairfield, Seth Hipkins and wife Brittany of North Carolina and Eric Hipkins of Fairfield; two great grandchildren: Colton and Caroline Rudman of Myersville; a brother, Thomas Hipkins and wife Alice; a sister, Charlotte Miller, a sister-in-law, Patti Hipkins as well as his long time companion, Dr. Mary Miller of Myersville. John was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Hipkins.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Sunday, June 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 3, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 603 Main St., Myersville, MD 21773 with his pastor, Rev. Mike Beiber officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
