John Hedges, III

September 3, 1940 — December 27, 2018

John Sprigg Hedges 3rd , (78), of Walkersville died (12-27-2018).  Born September 3rd 1940, in Brunswick, Md.  He was the son of the late, John & Jane Hedges.  Nephew of the late, Leonard and Dorothy Ayres.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Ann Hedges.  She died suddenly, November 14, 1980 and his only nephew Mark Nielson of Chicago.
He was born and grew up in Brunswick Md. He graduated from Brunswick High school, class of 1959.
He is survived by his wife Patsy (Fogle) of 57 years and daughter Kimberly D. Hedges, of Germantown, Md., and his beloved cats Harry and Mitch. He is also survived by his sisters Bettie Jane Nielson, Heidi DiDomenico and husband Stan, and his nephew’s son Jordan, all of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews by marriage.
John was devoted to his work.  He worked for AT&T from 1962 to 1990.  He started working at Monrovia as Communications Technician.  Retiring as a Senior Program Manager, at Washington DC. In 1989.  After his retirement, he worked for US Department of State, retiring in 1999 as a GS-15.
John, his wife and 2 other couples started the first Frederick County chapter of The Compassioned Friends.  The Compassionate Friends is a support group for parents that have lost a child.
John was a member of the Church of the Brethren, The Masons, Acacia Lodge #155, the Frederick Train Club, and the Walkersville Volunteer Fire department.
At John’s request, there will be no public viewing or visitation.
Arrangements are being made by Stauffer Funeral Home.
