John Thomas Gouker, 85, of Frederick MD died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Northampton Manor. He was the husband of the late Joy Ann Gouker, who was the love of his life. Born on December 21, 1931, he was the son of the late Lawrence Xavier, Sr and Mary Jane (Tracey) Gouker.
John was a graduate of Frederick High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at the Oxfiber Brush Company, and the Eveready Company. John retired from the Frederick County School Board, where he was a custodian for 20 years at Thomas Johnson High School. John enjoyed wood crafting. He loved Trout fishing, which he did every day when he was able. He especially liked fishing in Liberty reservoir and going to the Bass Pro Shop with his son-in-law. He also liked watching sports and NASCAR on TV. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
John was the father to Barbara Marshall and husband, Bob, Trudy Nelson and Jaro, and June Zimmerman and husband, Bill. He was a grandfather to Emily Davis (Scott), Scott Rice (Yvonne) and Chuck Rice (Amy). He was a great-grandfather to Brandon, Shaun, and Lucas Davis, Zachary Wright, Noah and Nathan Rice, and Logan and Brooklyn Rice. John will also be remembered by Rick Davis.
He is also survived by his sister, Norma Myers of Frederick and Virginia Keeney of Kearneysville, WV; sisters-in-law, Paula Gouker and Alice Boyer, both of Fredrick and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence X. Gouker Jr. and Tom Gouker.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Friday, March 17, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
A funeral service will take place at 2 pm, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. Pastor Jack Payne will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Northampton for the care John received there. A very special thank you to his three special care givers Sonia, Tiffany and Keisha.
