John David "Buddy" Gladhill, Sr. passed peacefully at home on April 12, 2013. He was the husband of Judith "Judy" Gladhill for 52 years. Born on December 18, 1936, he was the son of the late John Carl Gladhill and Mary Alice Gladhill.
Buddy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. He retired from Montgomery College in 1998 where he supervised the renovation crew on all three campuses.
Buddy was well known throughout the Urbana Community. He was a charter member of the Urbana Fire Department and an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Urbana. Buddy was recognized and highly respected for his great carpentry skills. Everyone throughout the community knew they could rely on his fine craftsmanship.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children; daughter, Kimberly Heintzelman and her husband, Charles, and their two daughters, Skylar and Taylor of Hagerstown; daughter, Lisa Beckwith and her husband, Francis, and their two daughters Devyn and Logyn of Damascus; and son, John Gladhill Jr. and wife, Susie, and their two daughters Alyssa and Alanna of Hagerstown; and two step-granddaughters, Morgan Heintzelman and Jordan Beckwith.
Buddy also is survived by his sisters, Madeline Main; Helen England; Betty Wright and husband, John; and Grace Flanigan and husband, Richard; brothers Richard "Doc" Gladhill, and Donald Gladhill and wife, Gloria; sister-in-law Shirley Metz and husband, Gene; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Barbara Coffey and her husband, Jim. Buddy was predeceased by his oldest brother, Merle Gladhill.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 18 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Sandy Phillips.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
