Mr. John P. Fischer, 82 of Thurmont, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Geraldine D. Fischer who preceded him in death, after 49 years of marriage.
Born November 23, 1928 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John I and Mary Ann Schneider Fischer.
Mr. Fisher retired from the Arundel Corp/Borel Brick Co., after 44 years of service. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan. John was an usher for many years at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church where he was a member.
He will be remembered as a kind gentle man who was a loving caretaker of his wife during the 19 years of her illness. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who’s only wish was to make his family happy.
He is survived by his loving daughters Beverly A. Nunemaker and husband Charles "Jim" of Thurmont and Kimberly Whitacre and husband William of Rolla, MO, loving granddaughters Christa and Aime Whitacre both of Rolla. MO and his special friend Habib Maidanwal. Also surviving his sister Elizabeth Dunn of Kingsville, MD, his brother Bernard Fischer and wife Emily of Belair, MD, sister-in-law Ann Fischer of Towson and Frank Gensler of Baltimore, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, sisters Theresa Kozlowski and Barbara Gerarde Gensler, brothers Frank, Phillip and William Fischer, brothers in law Peter Kozlawski and Harold Dunn, Sr., and his special sister and brother -in-law Helen and Virgil Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Thursday, February 24, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 25, at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, N. Church Street, Thurmont. with Father John Lesnick as celebrant.
