John Robert Cook, 73, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Howard County General Hospital, after fighting kidney and heart disease.
Born April 2, 1949, in Fairfield, IA, John was a proud military veteran who served in the United States Army after being drafted at the age of 18 during the Vietnam War. He went on to have a successful career in telecommunications, working in the White House and most recently at the National Institutes of Health. John loved fishing, hunting, strumming on his banjo, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family. It is those memories that will be cherished by all who knew John.
John is survived by his daughter, Michelle, and her husband, Gary; his son, Nick, and his wife, Kristin; his grandsons Gary, Randy, Cameron, Owen, and Everett; and his sister, Joyce Morkin, as well as extended family and friends who loved him dearly. Preceding him in death are his son, John Robert Cook Jr. and his siblings Nancy, Howard, Larry, Linda, and Delbert.
The family will receive friends from 10AM-11:30AM on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Fred), 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD, where a celebration of John's life journey will take place at 11:30 am on Friday, June 24, 2022. Rev. Vernon D. King III will officiate. Interment will be at Ebenezer UMC Cemetery (Virginia) in Purcellville, VA.
