John Chen

John Howard Chen, 44, of Myersville, Maryland, died at 7:00 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2017, from injuries sustained in a one vehicle accident in Frederick, Maryland.

John was born on January 13, 1972 in Bethesda, Maryland, He attended Frederick County Schools and was a graduate of Bruno-Pyatt High School in Everton, Arkansas. He then received his auto-diesel mechanic degree from Lincoln College of Technology in Nashville, Tennessee. John had lived in the Frederick-Myersville area for the past seventeen years.

John was a much beloved father, uncle, son and friend. He is survived by his five children: Daustin, Blake, Nick, McKinley and Rylee; his brother Ron and sisters: Laura, Kelley and Jackie; his father Howard Chen and stepmother, Mae Ling Chen and mother Sheri Smith; and many nieces and nephews. His tragic death has stunned his family and close-knit community.

As a single parent, John was a hard worker throughout his career. He worked as an auto-diesel mechanic, a real estate appraiser and most recently a CDL driver with Republic Services, of BFI Waste Services. At the time of his death, John had been driving for ten years. He had recently been named truck driver of the year for his company in 2016. Although his job kept him busy, John made time to coach his sons' baseball teams when they were younger. Recently, he also enjoyed the rare moments when he was able to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

John and his children are members of Lighthouse Church in Leitersburg, Maryland. However, his friend, Brent Fisk will be conducting the funeral services. The family will be receiving friends from 6-9 PM on Tuesday, January 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Chen Children Fund in care of Ron Chen at 10534 Liberty Road, Frederick, D 21701 or a Go Fund Me account, htts://www.gofundme.com/help-for-the-chen-children, to be used for the benefit of John's children.
