Mr. John V. Burke, 93, of Fairfield, PA, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Emma “Jenny” Burke.
Born July 29, 1921 in Wildwood, NJ, he was the son of the late Horace and Emily Viereck Burke.
Mr. Burke served his Country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He won the volunteer of the year award in Maryland. John played the piano for the Alzheimers units five days a week. He was a member of the Gideons International, the Walkersville Senior Citizens and entertained at Seniors and Glade Valley Nursing Home. He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, games, and reading science oriented magazines. John said “I loved the lord my savior and the Holy Spirit and tried to serve them with the best of my ability”. He was a devoted Christian.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Paul Burke of NV, Janet Perrone of FL, Stephen Burke of NJ, Barbi-Jon Burke of VA and Daniel Burke of NJ, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, two siblings E. Rachel Knisell of NJ and H. Russell Burke of FL, step-children Edgar Adams, Jr, Donald Adams and Diana Froitzheim and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Ronald Burke.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD, Sunday, December 28, from 1:00 pm until service time at 4:00 pm. Pastor Samuel Garrett will officiate.
Interment will be private at Parklawn Cemetery.
