Mr. John Lewis Burdette, Sr., 76 of Rocky Ridge, MD., died peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. John was surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Jean Tufts Burdette.
Born October 27, 1936 in Boyds, MD., he was the son of the late John Lawrence and Margaret Einwachter Burdette.
In his early years, John worked on the farm with his family for 25 years. He also worked as a surveyor for Montgomery County Government retiring after 34 years. He was a man that after meeting you once, you were a friend for life. We really do not think he every knew the work “NO”. John loved to watch the Washington Redskin Games, looking at pretty horses and best of all hanging out on Saturday mornings with his friends on Mike Beahms Farm.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children John L. Burdette, Jr of Keedysville and Franklin L. Burdette of Brunswick, step-son- Douglas Tufts of Silver Spring, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and eleven step grandchildren, siblings George Hillard of Poolesville, Jane Bryan of Rockville and James R. Burdette of Mercersburg, PA. He will also be remembered by his good friend Daniel Hobbs.He was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Bower, his first wife Betty L. Burdette, his daughter-in-law Janet Burdette and his step-daughter Kathleen Lawhorne.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, December 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Boyds Presbyterian Church, 19901 White Ground Road, Boyds, MD on Monday, December 31, at 11:00 am, , with Rev. Merritt W. Ednie officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery
Pallbearers will be Junior Cook, Daniel Hobbs, Dave Foster, Jim Pedersen, Chris Rau and Upton Reed.
