Mrs. Johannah Elizabeth Klamp Zimmerman, 80, of Walkersville passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, at Sunrise Assisted Living of Frederick. She was the loving wife of Irvin H. (Jinx) Zimmerman, who died March 7, 2007. They had been married nearly 57 years.
“Jo’ to all her friends, “Hannah” to all her family was born November 4, 1930, In Dorsey, MD, to Henry G. and Johannah Klamp. She was the youngest of three children. Her sister, Doris M. Zuccarini, died in 2007 and her brother, Henry G. Klamp, Jr., died in 1971.
After graduating high school, Johannah, a gifted artist, attended the MD Institute of Art and did retail collections work in Baltimore. After marrying in 1950, Johannah and Jinx lived in Winchester, VA. Soon after, they moved to Jinx’s hometown, Walkersville, where she worked at Walkersville Bank, and they began working on the family dairy farm, RaVin-Z Farm. They worked together on the farm with their children until they sold their herd, and partially retired in 1991. Johannah was in charge of raising the calves and heifers, and was so good at it, that after nearly 40 years on the farm, she could count on one hand the number of calves she lost. She truly had a nurturing gift with her family, friends, and even the animals she raised on the farm. Life for everyone blessed enough to know or love Johannah will never be the same without her in it.
In her free time, Johannah enjoyed spending time with her family and feeding and watching the birds around the farm. She was an excellent cook and pie baker. Until her health deteriorated, Johannah was an active member of the Walkersville United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School years earlier. She was a long-time accomplished duckpin bowler, member of the Glade Valley Grange, where she had served on the Ways and Means, the Family Activities, and the Deaf Activities committees, the Frederick County Pomona, and MD State Granges, the Walkersville Homemakers Club, the Frederick County and MD State Farm Bureau, and the Frederick County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, serving on various committees. She served on the Farm Home Advisory Committee at Southern States Cooperative in Woodsboro. Johannah earned her “Master Canner” certification through the MD Cooperative Extension Service. But her biggest accomplishment, and the one she was most proud of, was being a loving wife and mother.
Johannah is survived by her two children, Ryan Zimmerman, and his wife Patricia, and Connie Wetzel, and her husband Edward, all of Walkersville, her grandchildren, Joshua Zimmerman, and his wife Loretta, of Frederick and Amanda Zimmerman, and her fiance’, James Strauss, Andrew Roderuck, Matthew Roderuck, and Jamie Roderuck, all of Walkersville. She is also survived by her very precious great-grandson, Hayden Irvin Zimmerman, of Frederick, her brother-in-law, Anthony Zuccarini of Elkridge and her nephew, David Zuccarini of Columbia, and his family. She will always be remembered by her very dear friends Gerry Ramsburg and Harold Roderuck and her former son-in-law, James Roderuck, all of Walkersville. Johannah was predeceased by many of her dearest friends, but she also made many lasting friendships at Sunrise Assisted Living of Frederick, and we would like to express heartfelt thanks to the caring staff who meant so much to her, and to Mary Lightbown and the wonderful caregivers from Hospice. You have all been such a blessing for our family.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 14. Funeral services will be held at Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, with the Reverend Steve Humphrey officiating.
