Joel Bloom

Joel Barnet Bloom, 78, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 13, 2018. He was the husband of 56 years to June (Byington) Bloom.

Born on November 9, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Philip and Jessie (Praissman) Bloom. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech. He worked for the Department of Defense, spending many years working at the Pentagon. He retired after 46 years and 4 months, where he served in a variety of positions throughout his career. Joel loved building, creating and collecting model trains. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved every opportunity to help others.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, David A. Bloom and wife Lynn and their children Jonathan and Brent Harrison; daughter, Laura D. Bloom and son, Scott Bloom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois S. Bloom.

Services will be private.
