Joanne Marie (Moats) Ford, 86, of Hagerstown, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Hagerstown Healthcare Center with loved ones surrounding her.
Born on April 29, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Daniel W. and Ethel Irene (Morin) Moats. Her beloved husband, Charles F. Ford, preceded her in death in 2012.
During her younger years, Joanne and her twin sister, Marjorie, and family lived in Tilghmanton until she was married and moved to Hagerstown with her husband, Charles, of 61 years. She was a homemaker and loving mother of four children. She was a member of the Hagerstown Women's Club, Hagerstown Garden Club and Beta Sigma Phi and in her earlier years attended the Manor Church of the Brethren. Joanne was a very talented artist who painted in oils. She decorated extensively for Christmas, not only her own home, but the Women's Club in Hagerstown.
She is survived by a son, Charles F. Ford, II, and wife, Judy of Shepherdstown; three daughters, Vanessa J. Gilbreath and husband, Hugh, of Alelphi, Maryland, Mary A. Behan and husband, Henry, of Shepherdstown and Beverly A. Miller and husband, Michael, of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Joanne was preceded in death by her twin sister, Marjorie Elgin.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland.
A celebration of Joanne's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018, at Manor Church of the Brethren, 18511 Manor Church Road in Boonsboro. The Rev. Joy Zepp will officiate. Final resting place will be in the adjacent church cemetery.
