Joann Busey Martin

Joann Busey Martin departed her loving family on August 6, 2023. 

Joann was born in Hagerstown, MD on March 5, 1945, to the late Edith Pennesi and Mack Busey. She married the love of her life John Martin Sr. on July 25, 1963, almost 60 faithful years ago.

Joann graduated in 1963 from St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown. She enjoyed singing in the choir and was a staff member of the school newspaper which earned her a trip to New York City. She made lifelong friendships and was very proud of her school. 

Upon graduation, she began her career working for the Atomic Energy Commission in Germantown, Montrose Baptist Church in Rockville and NIH in Bethesda, retiring in 2009 after 32 years of service as a Personnel Specialist. 

Joann was a Brownie Troupe Leader, active in PTA, Knights of Columbus, Marriage Encounter, and a Bunco Player.
She enjoyed craft projects, interior decorating, and her most favorite hobby, sailing the seas totaling 35 cruises to Alaska, Australia, Caribbean, Greece, Italy, Egypt, Turkey, Ireland, England and many more. 

Joann was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Aunt and Grandmother. Surviving are her devoted husband, John Martin Sr; daughter Crissy Martin, son Johnny (Jacky) Martin Jr; grandson Garrett Martin; and Brothers Kenny (Kim) Wireman and Harry Wiremen. Also, nieces and nephews: Jenny Brown, Chip Wireman, Dianna Wireman, Tommy Martin, Tammy Martin, and Billy Whalen. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by William and Pauline Potere; “Nonno and Grandma” who raised her, her Brother Tony (Butch) Britti; Brother Gary Wireman, favorite Aunts Alice, Annie, Walaka, Peggy and Billy Fugitt and many other Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. 

The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 PM on Monday, August 14, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. Interment will be at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 15, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.
