Joan Shelton

Mrs. Joan Mc Ewen Shelton, 80, of Walkersville, MD., died on Friday, September 2, 2011 at her home. She was the beloved wife of Herman I. Shelton, married July 29, 1950.
Born June 6, 1931 in Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Patrick and Alice Farrell McEwen. Preceded in death by her sisters Marjorie Ganley, Patricia Pette and brother John McEwen.
She was a lifetime Catholic and a member of St. Katherine Drexel Roman Catholic Church of Frederick, MD, was also a founding member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Walkerville, MD.
She became Eucharistic Minister under Father Paul Witthauer in 1981 at St. Timothy Catholic Church. She was an active volunteer at the Walkersville schools helping students with reading and tutoring them during the summer at her home. She is a lifetime member of Montevue Auxiliary serving from 1969 – 2000, where she served as President, Past President, Adopt a Friend Chairperson and other positions within the organization. She was involved with raising funds for Right to Life for 20 years.
She was a devoted mother to Patrick, Michael, Herman (Joyce), Joan (Raymond), Matthew (Susan) and Alice (Kurt). Grandmother to Wendy Ann Payne, April Rose Shelton, Ray, Ryan and Kaitlyn Shortt, Kristy Shelton, Lucie and Thomas Shelton and Blayne Wachter, step-grandchildren Penny and Artie Baugher, great-grandchildren Timothy, Alexis, Trey and Dakota, sister-in-law Peggy McEwen, Cousin Anne Fraser, NY and many nieces, nephews, cousins and three devoted friends, Pat Barton, Nancy Smith and Ruth Hirsch, her godchild Joe Ganley, Middletown and special nephew Peter Pette, Wyoming.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00 am, from St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD.
