Joan DeEtte Howard, 91, of Homewood Retirement Home died Monday, September 17th. She was the daughter of Dr. Ralph and Ethel Green. She was the eldest of two daughters. Joan was born and raised in Beaver City and Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from the University of Nebraska. While there she met her future husband, Grant W. Howard. They were married July 15, 1942 and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage with family and friends. Joan was a homemaker, a volunteer, a 73 year member of PEO International, a 49 year member of North Chevy Chase Christian Church where she was an elder emeritus and her most proud accomplishment – a breast cancer survivor. She will be greatly missed by her survivors; Sister Marilyn Williams of Plano, Texas; Son Steve (Joanne); Daughters Karen Barnard (Winston Jr.) and Nancy (Craig Bowman); seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There will be two memorial services. Sunday, September 23rd at the Homewood Retirement main chapel @ 4:30pm and Monday, September 24th at North Chevy Chase Christian Church, 8814 Kensington Parkway, Chevy Chase @ 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to any of the following organizations: N. Chevy Chase Christian Church Scholarship Fund, PEO International Peace Scholarship Fund or St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, South Dakota.
