Joan Higdon, 78, of Woodbine, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Gilchrest Hospice. She was the wife of Charles Higdon. She was born on August 30, 1946, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Joseph Roland Provencal and Clara Louise Lawson.
She is retired as a project manager from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. As a retiree, Joan devoted her time as an administrative assistant for the Lyme Disease Research Foundation.
Joan had many hobbies and past times. She loved crafts including quilting, sewing, stamping and making cards. She also had a passion for cooking and reading. Finally, she enjoyed traveling with Charlie and spending time with her grandkids and many friends.
Joan is survived by her husband, Charles. Children and Grandchildren: Nathan (Melissa) Higdon; Sara, Samuel, Joshua, Rebekah. June (Doug) Houck; Kathryn, Julia. Lisa (Hugh) MacGairbhea; Huidi, Rheddyn.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Clara Provencal and her brother Gary.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Michael Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael’s Road, Mount Airy, MD. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, it is Joan’s request to make memorial to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Boston, MA or the Lyme Disease Research Foundation, Lutherville, MD.
