Joan Dangerfield

May 21, 1932 — April 19, 2017

Joan W. Dangerfield, 84, of Frederick, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 21, 1932, she was the daughter of Damian Wagner and Lucille (Gilmore) Wagner.

Joan graduated from St. Alexius School of Nursing, Bismarck, ND in 1952 and worked as a Night Supervisor for the next two years at St Alexius Hospital.  In 1954, she accepted a position as a Team Leader on Medical Ward 2A at the VA Hospital in Los Angeles, CA.

Marrying Harry Dangerfield in 1957, the couple moved to Frederick in 1961.  Joan was active in the Ft. Detrick community as a member of the Ft. Detrick Officers Wives Club (33 years), Assistant Girl Scout Leader, and as a Volunteer Coordinator for the Red Cross Blood Program (25 years).  During this time she received several awards for her service namely, The Dept. of Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service, The Patriotic Civil Service Award and The Presidents Call to Service Award (The highest Civilian Award). She was most recently recognized for her over 30 years of service with the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Select Seconds Thrift Shop (1979-2014)

Joan spent winters in her most favorite place, her beloved Marco Island, Fl.  She would spend her time collecting seashells with her children and grandchildren and walking along the beach in the sun.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Dangerfield and her granddaughter, Natalie Green.

She is survived by her three children, Patrick John Dangerfield and wife Angelia of Pennsville, NJ, Beth Dangerfield Green and husband, Jack of Walkersville and Julia Seanez and husband, Salvador, Jr. of Frederick; grandchildren Kristin, Patrick, Matthew, Mollie, Ashley and Emily; great-grandchildren, Brant, Kelcie, Ava, and Jillian; brother, Robert Wagner of Grenada Hills, CA; and sisters Alicia Fischer and Sharon Brooks, both of Bismarck ND.

Burial will be private at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
