Joan Boyer

February 20, 1930 — January 12, 2011

Mrs. Joan Crawford Boyer, 80 of Frederick, Maryland passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 in the presence of her family. She was the devoted wife of Gary H. Boyer for 59 ½ years.

Born February 20, 1930 in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. (Pete)and Mattabelle Staley Crawford.

Mrs. Boyer was a 1947 graduate of Frederick High School and a graduate of FMH School of Nursing in 1950. Her three sisters were also graduates of FMH Nursing School. She was employed at FMH and later worked as a nurse in several medical offices as well as being a homemaker. Joan was a longtime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved to travel to visit her grandchildren in the South. She also enjoyed working her rose and flower gardens. Joan was an excellent cook and collected many cookbooks. She enjoyed the many family holiday gatherings over the years. Her interests also included reading and big bank music of the 50's. Joan always had a warm and friendly disposition which served her well in nursing. She continued this attitude during her many years of illness.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons David M. Boyer and wife Julie of Lecanto, Fl and Kevin H. Boyer of Easley, SC, her grandchildren Bradley Boyer of  Riviera Beach, FL, Brianna Boyer of Lecanto, FL, Kristin Boyer of Greenville, SC, Katelyn and Chloe Boyer of Easley, SC, her sisters Doris C. Shank and husband Leo, and Sally Crawford all of Frederick and Kay V. Anderson and husband Edward of Boonsboro. She is also survived by sister-in-law Brenda Boyer Burger and husband Jack of Niceville, FL. Joan will also be remembered by her godchild Teresa Main Foreman and husband C. Dewey, Jr. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother Charles Crawford, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, January 16, from 2 -4 and 7 - 9:00 p.m., where services will be held Monday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Driver-Bishop officiating.

Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery
