Mr. Jessie M. Ketterman, Sr., 77, of Rocky Ridge, MD passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Cox Ketterman.
Born August 15, 1938 in Rawlings, MD, he was the son of the late Jesse Frank and Margie Lena Carr Ketterman.
Jessie was a graduate of Allegany High School where he played football continuing his career at Fairmont State University where he played on several undefeated teams. Jessie proudly defended his country in the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam. He worked for many years as a sheet metal contractor and was the co-owner of J&J Ketterman, prior to his disability. Jessie was a lifetime member of the Thurmont Sportsman Club, Thurmont AMVETS, Thurmont American Legion, VFW, Emmitsburg & McCoole and the Vietnam Veterans Cumberland Chapter. Jessie was also Past President and coach of the C.Y.A. and was formerly a little league coach in Thurmont.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Kristina Wolf and husband Todd of Thurmont, Brenda Toms and fiance Bill Stottlemyer of Emmitsburg and Jesse Ketterman, Jr. and wife Lynn of Frostburg; grandchildren Rick Toms, Cheriann Toms-Hester, Tyler Wolf, Jesse Ketterman and Andrew "Drew" Ketterman; great-grandchildren Autumn and Caleb Hester; sisters Rosalee Rogers of IL and Jeni Taylor of WV; brothers Billy Ketterman of WV and James Ketterman of WV. He will also be remembered by all of his special friends and family for all of their unconditional love and support. The family would also like to give a special thanks for the outstanding care he received at the Martinsburg Veterans Hospital Community Living Center.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Lewis, Roy, Thomas "Bud" and Howard Ketterman and sisters Marie Cosner and Jean Goins.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 3-5PM and 7-9PM and again at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virgina Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502 on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 3-5PM and 7-9PM where a funeral service will be held on Friday, December 18 at 1PM. Pastor Craig Moorman will officiate.
Interment will follow at Waxler Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church, 8619 Blacks Mill Rd., Thurmont, MD 21788. (Creagerstown)
