Jesse Brice Runkles

Jesse Brice Runkles, 77, of Mount Airy, MD, passed away on July 13th, 2023 peacefully
surrounded by family. At the time of death, he entered into Heaven with Jesus and
joined the love of his life.

Jesse Brice was born on October 8th, 1945, in Frederick County, Maryland. Jesse was a
country boy. He loved farming, especially his red angus cows, and gardening. In his
younger years he worked at the Mobile station in Mount Airy at night and Kettler
Brothers during the day. He was a Master carpenter. Later in life he retired from D & J
Corporation where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.

He was the brother of Alice and Mary Ellen Burdette. The father of M. Lisa Runkles of Mount Airy, MD, 
Jesse James Runkles, and Tina of Mount Airy, MD and Cheryl M. Knight, and Brian of Mount
Airy, MD. He was the best Pap Pap to his grandchildren Christian Tough of Thurmont,
Ashley & Jeremy Wagaman of Greencastle, PA. Skylar & Emma Knight of Mount Airy,
MD Gracie Knight of Mount Airy MD, Great Pap Pap to Easton P. Knight, Kierney C.
Knight and Bransyn C. Wagaman. His beloved pet Buttercup.

Being a father was one of the most important parts of Jesse’s life, a role that gave him
much pride. He was an amazing father, supportive, kind, strong, and most of all he had
integrity. Jesse’s grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place as well. He
was not just our father, brother, uncle, or friend; he was our everything.

Jesse was predeceased in death by his loving wife Remona Carol Runkles of 56 years.
His father Brice Runkles and mother Zelma Fritz Runkles. His brothers Charles and
Robert Runkles and Sister Dorothy Norwood.

Pallbearers: Jesse Runkles, Brian Knight, Skylar Knight, Jeremy Wagaman, Michael
Runkles, and Larry Lee Bennett.

The family will receive family and friends for visitation at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 8
East Ridgeville Blvd, Mount Airy, MD 21771 on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023, at 2-4 pm
and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be at Stauffer’s Funeral Home Thursday 20th at 11:00
am, officiated by Pastor Cheryl Knight. Interment will follow at the Prospect United
Methodist Church Cemetery, Mount Airy MD
