Jesse William Phillips, 53, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at his home. Jesse was born in Takoma Park, MD on July 5, 1963.
He grew up in Howard County and graduated from Hammond High School in 1981. As a young man, he enjoyed many outdoor activities like horseback riding, riding motorcycles, skiing, camping, and canoeing. Several years after high school graduation he began his career of 32 years with A.H. Mitchell Construction. Jesse worked side by side with his cousins and uncle in a family business and was truly dedicated in supervising the field activities. In recent years, he spent much of his free time in Ocean City, MD with his longtime partner, Michele Hines, as well as traveling to Costa Rica to visit her family. They loved to spend time riding his Harley with their friends.
Jesse was a dedicated father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and son, always making time to help anyone who asked, always showing up at just the right time when needed to pitch in.
He is survived by his parents Bob and Carol (Mitchell) Phillips formerly of Howard County, MD and now retired living in Mt. Airy, MD. His grandfather Joseph Clemente of Mt. Airy, MD and his two sons, Ryan Allen Phillips of Mt. Airy, MD and Mitchell Andrew Phillips of Towson, MD. In addition, he will be dearly missed by his only brother Kurt and wife Jodie of Urbana, MD along with their children Grace, Caroline, Jack and Andrew. His Uncle Allen Mitchell and his late wife June of Mt. Airy, MD. Cousins Chet Mitchell and wife Jennifer and Luke Mitchell and wife Beth both of Mt. Airy, MD. A host of Aunts and Uncles to include: Bill Phillips and wife Barbara of Charlotte, NC, Rick Phillips and wife Karen of Lititz, PA, Karen (Phillips) Kiselburgh and husband BJ of Marriottsville, MD, and Susan (Phillips) Miller of Ellicott City, MD. Jesse is also survived by numerous cousins and many friends who will truly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marian Mitchell Clemente and Jesse Richard Mitchell as well as John William Phillips and Anne Catherine Phillips.
The family was able to say a loving goodbye in a small, private ceremony before cremation.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 27 at 11:00am at Damascus Road Community Church located at 12826 Old National Pike, Mt. Airy, MD 21771. The family will host a luncheon following the service. We invite the family and his many friends and co-workers to share in the celebration of Jesse’s life. As a remembrance of Jesse’s beautiful blue eyes, please wear blue.
