Jesse Eugene Mathews, a beloved member of the Frederick community, passed away on October 29, 2023, at the age of 79 in his hometown of Frederick, Maryland. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born on September 1, 1944, in Frederick, he was the son to the late Charles E. Mathews and Jean Florine Wolfe Mathews. Jesse's life was defined by his dedication and hard work. For over three decades, he worked at Fairchild Industries until his retirement.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jesse possessed a vibrant personality that lit up every room he entered. He had a remarkable ability to bring cheer and laughter to everyone he encountered. Known for his quick wit and playful teasing, he never failed to put a smile on people's faces. Loved ones fondly remember the joyous moments they shared with Jesse.
In his free time Jesse enjoyed Duckpin bowling at Arcade Lanes in Frederick which brought him great pleasure. He also discovered a passion for Bingo and cherished the time spent with his friends at Independence Hose Company. These activities allowed Jesse to create lasting memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to accompany him.
Jesse's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his role as a father. He found immense joy in raising his children and took great pride in being their dad. His love for them knew no bounds and was a constant source of strength throughout his life.
Tragedy struck Jesse when he lost his beloved wife, Linda S. Mathews, in 2018 after they had shared 48 beautiful years together. Her passing left a void in Jesse's heart that could never be filled. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Maudella Payne and Irene Baumgardner, brothers, Sonny Wolfe and Hank Mathews.
Jesse is survived by his daughters, Susie Campbell and husband, Jon and Jennifer Wisner and his son Jason Mathews. He is also survived by his granddaughter Emma Mathews, and his grandson Jacob Wisner.
To honor Jesse's life, a visitation will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 on Sunday,November 5, 2023. The first visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by another visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On November 6, 2023, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or the ASPA.
