Jennifer Rothen

April 21, 1948 — July 23, 2019

Jennifer Joy Rothen, 71, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on July 23, 2019 at home.

Born on April 21, 1948, in Butler, PA, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Shirley Ann (Post) Thompson.

In addition to her husband, John Joseph Rothen Sr., she is survived and will be lovingly missed by her children, daughter, Johanna Jill Beck and husband, Kenneth, of North Augusta, SC; a son, John J. Rothen Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Trey Beck and Peyton Beck; sister, Rebecca Edick and her husband Doug; brother William Thompson and his wife Deborah;  brother-in-law, Robert Rothen and wife Patsy Rothen, nieces Dr. Roberta Rothen and life partner Kristy Pottol, and Victoria Defreitas  and husband Les; Anita Thomas; and nephews Brent Rothen and Christopher Thompson.

Joy worked in the medical field ever since graduating from Butler Senior High school.  She led and managed various offices and teams while taking great personal pride in training professionals in developing efficient processes and customer care.  She loved running and spent many hours training and competing in many marathons, half-marathons, 10Ks, and fun runs in support of cancer and other important charities.  She enjoyed and was a very avid reader.  Joy was very involved with her church including serving the congregation as Eucharistic minister, performing as lay reader for countless services, and encouraging others through her selfless visitation and fellowship with aged and sick parishioners.  When time allowed, she enjoyed taking trips with her husband, especially to relax at the beach.  She was always looking forward to her and John’s next opportunity to visit and spend time with their children and grandchildren to share her love, stories, and make new memories.

The family wishes to acknowledge the competent and loving care she received from Hospice of Frederick Maryland in the final days of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joy's memory to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home and Stauffer Crematory, Frederick, MD. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at staufferfuneralhome.com
